{Loves Jesus, coffee, sushi, and puppies}

I was raised by two wonderful, loving parents in the small, rural community of Sweet Home, Oregon located in the rolling foothills of the Cascade mountain range; I lived a sheltered and safe life surrounded by forests, lakes and wild critters. Now having lived in Portland, Oregon for the past 12 years there is still no shortage of wilderness or inspiration. But if I could peek inside the studio of any creative person, (not being religious or anything), I’d choose Jesus. I think Jesus probably had some pretty sweet carpentry skills. I’d love to see the things he built.

Ever since back in the late 70s when my little hands were able to hold a crayon, I have felt the urge to create. I was always more interested in designing Barbie’s home and furnishings or sewing her a new dress from my mom’s scraps of fabric than I was of actually playing with the dolls themselves. And secretly, I preferred to watch The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross or Sewing with Nancy on PBS rather than Saturday cartoons. So in school I took every art and craft elective I could and soaked it up. To this day my parents’ home is full of all those random projects: weird clay masks, block prints, handmade formal dresses, paintings only a mother could love, and a leather belt my dad still wears.

In college I went with a major that seemed a practical outlet for this creativity that would earn myself a living: Interior Design. Again, I soaked up the drawing, design, color theory, and art history requirements, and took a couple painting electives as I could. With two degrees in hand, I am officially able to say I have the knowledge and skills to space plan and design your home, office or cubicle; and I’m good at it (if I do say so myself). But my true passion is still in making all those random projects. My two current favorites are sewing clothing and mixed-media painting.

Now these projects have a purpose. With everything I make I hope and pray that it somehow inspires others to dream, to hope, to love, and to act. I want nothing more than to use these talents that I been gifted with in order to impact peoples’ lives for better, and in doing so change the world!
